Welcome to the home page of our Christian Education Programs for Children! First Congregational Church of LaGrange offers a rich array of education programs for children based on their ages. Sunday school begins directly after the Children’s Sermon during our 10:30 a.m. service. With the exception of Nursery through Two’s, Children meet their teachers and shepherds outside the Sanctuary and are escorted to their classrooms. Pick-up locations are listed in the back of the Church bulletin each Sunday. Please contact Debbie Jacksondebbie@fcclg.org or (708) 352-0800 x 22 if you have any questions.
Nursery (Birth to Early Two’s) –
Our nursery and Two’s program is located in room 102/103 is open from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon each Sunday, giving parent’s time to engage in other activities of church life. A minimum of one teen and one adult, staff the nursery each week with additional teen volunteers dedicated to spending quality time with the youngest of our church family.
Late 2’s / Early 3’s Class -
Room 101 is where children hear Bible lessons, recognize themselves as God's children, and begin a special relationship with their church family. Our goal is for children to grow in faith as they grow in years.
Through art, science, music, and play children will learn about Jesus, understand that God loves them, know that church is a special place where they are loved, and discover their gifts in God's world.
God’s Seedlings through God’s Garden experience the same bible story for each age group. Each week, a new Bible story within a monthly Bible theme is introduced. An age appropriate peer group within a 5 minute DVD segment, introduces the Bible Story. There is also a monthly music segment for our children and youth to enjoy. Using the same Bible story for each age group enables all family members to join in a Sunday school review and Family discussion at home.
Each class has two very caring adults, one teacher and one shepherd. Shepherds take attendance and assist in class. Both build mentoring relationships with our children. So, not only do our teachers focus on creating a multi-intelligence environment, but our Shepherds lead their flock to class each week helping and caring about how that social studies test or that soccer game ,went the week prior!
God’s Seedlings (Mid 3’s – Pre K)
Preschoolers have lots of energy. In room 111 children enjoy movement, songs, crafts, games, listening to stories and acting them out. In God’s Seedlings our preschool children are introduced to a multi-intelligence learning environment using the LIVE BIG (Live your Belief in God) curriculum. Our children begin each Sunday with a five minute DVD introducing the Bible lesson through “Backyard Time” with Ms. Lucy, Mr. Z., and Bongo the Bible verse parrot. See the 2007-2008 Sunday school schedule for details.
God’s Garden (Kindergarten –7th grades)
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades begin in room 312 each week, here our children are introduced to Ana and JJ who oversee “The Station 2”, a creative community center where Luke, Liz, Keili and Ethan act as Big Brothers and Sisters introducing the weekly bible story.
3rd, 4th & 5th grades begin in room 304 each week, here our children are introduced to the same peer group as their younger counterparts, but on a more peer oriented level.
Our 6th & 7th grade or “Tween”, pre to early teen group, gather in room 305 each week, here our youth are introduced to the Bible lesson at the “Common Ground Café” where Will, Leigh, Kate, T.J., Julia, and Micah will introduce our youth to the weekly Bible story.
This group will also be introduced to pre-confirmation ideas and concepts. They will assist in providing support for the 8th grade confirmation class. This pre-confirmation exposure will help our 6th/7th grade students experience what confirmation is and why it is important in their faith journey.
All three groups will rotate using classrooms best suited to their multi-intelligence Bible lesson. Other classrooms available for use are Bloomin Tales (Room 310), Holy Word and Vine (Room 315), Fresh Fields (Dining Room), and Taste Buds (Kitchen).
